
Crusty Salmon Canapes
These crispy, flavour-packed canapes are ideal for parties, gatherings, or festive nibbles. Topped with creme fraiche, lemon and either smoked or kiln-roasted salmon, they’re rich, refreshing, and seriously moreish. Prepare ahead and assemble just before serving.

Ingredients
- 1 French baguette or sourdough, sliced into rounds
- Olive oil (for brushing)
- 100g smoked or kiln-roasted salmon (flaked or sliced)
- 3 tbsp creme fraiche
- 1 tsp horseradish sauce or Dijon mustard (optional)
- Lemon zest
- Fresh dill, parsley or chives (to garnish)
- Black pepper
Method
- Preheat the grill. Lightly brush bread slices with olive oil and grill until golden and crisp (or toast in a hot pan).
- In a bowl, mix the creme fraiche with horseradish or mustard if using. Season with a little pepper.
- Top each toast round with a dollop of creme fraiche, a piece of salmon, lemon zest, and fresh herbs.
- Serve immediately, or toast the bread and prepare toppings in advance for quick assembly.
