Product Description

Dulse is one of the most flavourful seaweeds in British waters. Hand-harvested on the Cornish coast and dried into flakes, it has a naturally smoky, salty, umami-rich character that adds depth to almost anything you cook or season. A little goes a long way.

Shake it over grilled mackerel or salmon straight from the pan, stir it through a chowder or fish stew towards the end of cooking, add it to salads and dressed vegetables, or use it as a finishing seasoning in place of salt. The flavour is savoury and distinctive without being overpowering, and the purple flakes add colour as well as depth. It also works well eaten raw as a snack, or briefly fried until crisp as a garnish.

Grown and hand-harvested by Cornish Seaweed on the Cornish coast. Organic certified, plastic-free packaging and 100% recyclable. The glass shaker is practical for everyday use at the table or on the barbecue.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is dulse seaweed?

Dulse is a red seaweed found along the Atlantic coast of Britain and Ireland. It has a naturally smoky, salty and umami-rich flavour and has been eaten for centuries in coastal communities. Cornish Seaweed's dulse is hand-harvested on the Cornish coast and certified organic.

How do I use dulse seaweed flakes?

Shake directly over fish, salads, soups or vegetables as a seasoning. Stir into chowders or fish stews towards the end of cooking. Briefly fry in a little oil until crisp for a savoury garnish. It can also be eaten raw as a snack straight from the shaker.

Does dulse taste like the sea?

It has a savoury, smoky, slightly salty flavour rather than a strong oceanic taste. It is often described as the closest natural plant equivalent to bacon, with a depth of umami that suits fish and seafood particularly well.

How should dulse seaweed flakes be stored?

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. The glass shaker keeps the flakes dry and fresh for everyday use. No refrigeration required.
