Fried Tuna – Milanese Style - Hamiltons Fish

Fried Tuna – Milanese Style

This simple recipe gives tuna steaks a classic Italian treatment — breadcrumbed and pan-fried until golden and crisp. Inspired by traditional Milanese veal, this dish works beautifully with tuna thanks to its meaty texture and rich flavour. It's quick, comforting, and perfect with a fresh salad or roasted veg.

⏱️ Prep Time: 10 minutes 🔥 Cook Time: 6–8 minutes 💡 Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients

  • 2 tuna loin steaks (approx. 150g each)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 50g plain flour
  • 75g breadcrumbs (panko or homemade)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil or neutral oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges (to serve)

Method

  1. Pat the tuna dry and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten egg, and one with breadcrumbs.
  3. Coat each tuna steak in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to help the coating stick.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the tuna for 3–4 minutes on each side, or until golden and cooked to your liking.

Serving Suggestion

Serve with rocket salad, roasted vegetables, or baby potatoes. Add a squeeze of lemon and a drizzle of olive oil to finish.
