Ingredients

  • 250g macaroni or short pasta
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • 500ml whole milk
  • 100g mature cheddar, grated
  • 50g parmesan, grated
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 200g handpicked crab meat (white or mixed)
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Breadcrumbs and extra cheese (for topping)

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan).
  2. Cook the pasta in salted water until just al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter and stir in the flour. Cook for 1 minute, then gradually whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened.
  4. Stir in the cheddar, parmesan, and mustard if using. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Fold in the cooked pasta and crab meat, then pour into a baking dish.
  6. Top with breadcrumbs and a little extra cheese. Bake for 20–25 minutes until bubbling and golden.

Serving Suggestion
