What Does ‘Sourced to Order’ Really Mean?
⏱️ 3–4 minute read
When it comes to buying fresh fish online, you may have come across the phrase “sourced to order” — but what does it actually mean? And why does it matter?
At Hamiltons Fish, it’s a phrase we use with care. It’s not just marketing jargon — it’s central to how we work, and why so many of our customers come back again and again. This guide will help you understand what it really means, how it affects quality, and why it’s different from other ways of doing things.
How Our Process Works
We don’t keep shelves of fish stored in advance. Instead, we buy your fish fresh each morning from Brixham Fish Market, Englands leading auction for wild-caught seafood. That means we only bring in what’s needed — based on actual orders.
Once we’ve collected the fish, it’s expertly prepared and packed by our team that same day. Nothing sits around waiting for a sale. It’s seafood at its freshest — sourced, cut, packed and delivered with purpose.
Why We Don’t Offer Same-Day Dispatch
Some online retailers promise same-day dispatch or next-day delivery on fish orders. While it sounds convenient, it often relies on keeping fish chilled in advance — which can mean it’s sitting in a fridge for days before it’s sold.
Our approach is different. By sourcing to order, we make sure every fish is at its peak when it reaches your kitchen. That does mean a slightly longer lead time — but it’s one of the key reasons our customers comment on the exceptional quality and taste of our seafood.
No Stockpiling. No Second-Guessing.
Because we don't hold stock, there’s no risk of you receiving fish that’s been sitting around or frozen just to extend its shelf life. Instead, everything is carefully handled and labelled with a use-by date to give you complete confidence in what you’re receiving.
Prefer to freeze it yourself? No problem. Our fresh fish is suitable for home freezing, and you'll find clear instructions on every label.
Freshness You Can Taste
Our customers regularly tell us they can taste the difference. That’s the power of a truly fresh, to-order approach — fish that’s bright, clean, and full of natural flavour. Whether you’re ordering cod loins, lemon sole, or wild bass, you can expect that same high standard every time.
