Whole Roasted Plaice with Lemon and Herbs
This oven-roasted plaice recipe is as simple as it is satisfying. A fresh whole plaice, olive oil, lemon and herbs are all you need for a delicious midweek meal. The fish cooks quickly and stays beautifully tender, with a clean, zesty flavour. Serve with seasonal vegetables or a crisp green salad.

Ingredients
- 1 x 700g whole plaice
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lemon, sliced
- Fresh thyme, parsley or dill
- Salt and black pepper
Method
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan).
- Place the plaice on a lined baking tray. Score the skin a few times on each side.
- Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Tuck lemon slices and fresh herbs into the cavity and on top of the fish.
- Roast in the oven for 15–18 minutes, or until the flesh flakes easily with a fork and the skin is lightly crisped.
- Serve immediately with a drizzle of pan juices and a wedge of lemon.
Serving Suggestion
A 700g whole plaice is ideal for two people. Serve with steamed new potatoes and seasonal greens or a simple dressed salad for a light, well-balanced meal.
