Whole Roasted Plaice with Lemon and Herbs

This oven-roasted plaice recipe is as simple as it is satisfying. Fresh whole plaice, olive oil, lemon and herbs are all you need for a delicious midweek meal. The fish cooks quickly and stays beautifully tender with a zesty, aromatic flavour. Serve with seasonal vegetables or a crisp green salad.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole plaice (approx. 400–500g), gutted and cleaned
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • Fresh thyme, parsley or dill
  • Salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan).
  2. Place the plaice on a lined baking tray. Score the skin a few times on each side.
  3. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Tuck lemon slices and fresh herbs into the cavity and on top of the fish.
  4. Roast in the oven for 12–15 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork and the skin is lightly crisped.
  5. Serve immediately with a drizzle of pan juices and a wedge of lemon.

Serving Suggestion

Pair with steamed new potatoes and seasonal greens or a sharp dressed salad. A lovely, light option for a fuss-free fish supper.
